Wangdue Phodrang is a historical town of Bhutan where cultures of the country have been well preserved. It has a long story behind its name. Most of the places to visit here talk about the town’s cultures and history. It is a great place to relax and spend some moment away from crowded city life.

Radak Neykhang Radak Neykhang remains one of the oldest places to visit here. This ancient 17th-century temple is dedicated to an ancient warrior king. Here you will find many displays of helmets, knives and shields. Temple interiors also have five versions of the local protector deity Radrap. All local police, army and royal bodyguards worship the deity.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong The Wangdue Phodrang dzong was established by the Zhabdrung in the year 1638. It stands on a rising ridge between the Punak Tsang Chhu and the Dang Chhu. From here you can relish beautiful vistas of the valleys. Sadly the dzong caught fire on 24 June and is under the mammoth task of rebuilding.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery Landmark of the Himalayan Kingdom, the Tiger’s Nest Monastery is counted as one of the fascinating sights in the world. Perched at an altitude of 3,120 meters above sea level, the Tiger’s Nest Monastery has a story behind it. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche or Padmasambhava flew onto this cliff riding a tigress and meditated in the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave for time immemorial.

Dochula Pass The perfect example of Bhutan’s environment and culture is the Dochula Pass. The Dochula Pass is a picturesque mountain pass adorned with snow covered Himalayas. Stretching from Thimpu to Punakha, this location will take your breath away with its panoramic view. This pass, a 45 minute drive from the capital city Thimphu, serves as a halting place for tourists on their ways to Punakha.
